Reflections' Actors Reflect on 2020 | Reflections Talent Agency

2020 was a whirlwind of challenges, especially for the acting industry. From a complete shutdown to negotiating with new regulations, actors adapted quickly. As we look forward to the year ahead, here are some of the amazing features our actors have been part of during the unprecedented times of the past year.

Wayne Gordon had an amazing year, acting alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Miracle Workers: Dark Ages, and Kelsey Grammer in Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop. Wayne also provided voiceover for The Perfume Shop's Valentines campaign, starred in the film series, Boat, and played the lead role in an Amazon commercial.

2020 was a big year for Reflections’ actors featuring in soaps. Tina Barnes and Edward Peel both featured in Doctors. Rhianna Hosmer appeared in Holby City, and we shared pictures of her prosthetic head being made for one scene.

Behind The Line: Escape to Dunkirk, starring Antonio Bustorff, released to acclaim. Antonio has also been working on a fantastic feature film directed by Kellie Madison.

In 2020, much of theatre and TV production had to adapt to online performances. The National Theatre created a 'theatre from home' online streaming service for audiences to watch some of their most famous performances for free during the lockdown. A Midsummer Night’s Dream starring Edward Peel was streamed to thousands.

Film festivals, including the Belfast Film Festival, also had to be streamed online. This included Welcome to Northern Ireland, starring Laura Thompson. Cheryl Burniston starred in the short film, This Camera is Broken, which featured in the Norwich film festival. Elena Stephenson featured in The Bear at The Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith.

We had the great additions of Gemma Wallace, Jodi Hutton, and Tom Nguyen to Reflections Talent, and we're so pleased to be working with them. Bryan Larkin has been working internationally on a variety of projects, including feature film, The Negotiation, TV series, Glow and Darkness, and voiceover for Beezer and Slomo in the animated comedy, Pets United.

This year, the long-awaited TV series, Intergalactic, starts to air, featuring Tina Barnes. Tina also provided a lead voiceover for the AAA video game, Baldur's Gate. Daniel Singh has been working on a high profile motion capture project. Edward Peel featured in Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row, as well as a BUPA TV commercial. Des Edwards, Cheryl Burniston and Rhianna Hosmer all featured in TV commercials in 2020. Sinead Clancy provided the voiceover for Snapfish's Ireland campaign. Amy Flood featured in the ‘Because childhood lasts a lifetime’ TV commercial campaign for Barnardo's Ireland. Mark Agar featured in DPD’s commercial campaign and is working on a large-scale TV production project. Jodi Hutton featured in many presenting projects.

On the blog and social media throughout 2020, we’ve looked at tips for voiceover acting, self-taping during the lockdown, and social media for actors. On Instagram, we’ve seen insights from our actors, featuring quotes from Carmen Gloria Perez, Des Edwards and Gemma Wallace.

2020 brought many challenges, and with it, opportunities for development. Des Edwards described what he feels he learnt as an actor in 2020: "Without doubt, patience, patience, patience!!! 2020 started so promising. I really thought it was going to be a breakthrough kind of year, only for the whole world to shut down mid March with the COVID outbreak."

Gemma Wallace also reflected, "You have to go through the hardships to get to the good times - it’s all a rollercoaster."

Laura Thompson has learnt to take more risks. "Don't be so concerned with getting it right the first time. Sometimes the 'mistakes' become the very thing the scene needs."

Through 2021, Gemma is also looking forward to "being more daring and experimental with roles and to continuing to challenge myself and take it to the next level."

Laura is looking forward to returning to live theatre. "Both acting and watching. I miss the buzz of both. Having other actors to collaborate with, to create, play and have fun with."

Now that 2021 is upon us, Reflections' actors are looking forward to the opportunities ahead. Let us know on social media what you're looking forward to in the acting industry in 2021.
